Double page spread analysis:

Title:
The title of the article is in a disjointed font, this could have been chosen to reflect the article which could be slightly odd or strange according to the audience. This could also be reflected in the WOB colour scheme in the title. However I feel that if the title took up less of the page the article could have had more content in it and therefore I don’t think that this would be appropriate to use in my magazine.
Colouring:
In the text important things such as the interviewer’s name: “Anna McMillan” and Lily’s name: “Lily Allen” these are coloured in red and therefore stand out to the audience, this is also anchorage with the shirt of the artist on the right side of the page, this could connote passion or a warning-which is more likely, this makes the random red writing easier to look at.
Centre of Visual interest:
When the audience first looks at the double page spread they first see the celebrity on the right hand side which is the main feature of the page. But also the interesting and unusual title that starts on the top left side of the page which the reader will see first. In my magazine I would like to take the idea of the image standing out, and I like how it takes up almost the entire second page as you can see every detail of the model.
Direct quote:
The title itself is a direct quote from Lily Allen, which draws interest from the audience as she is well known especially to her fans, and I think this is interesting as we get to see things from her viewpoint and her opinions.
Layout:
The layout of the actual article is in columns and therefore connotes a newspaper article; this also helps fit all of the information into the small space at the bottom of the page. I think that this is well chosen as celebrities are often featured in magazines however not in a positive way and so they use this to view her in a different light.
Colours:
The colour scheme for this double page is mostly black and white, however there is some colour used in the models clothing and some of the text, these colours are both red which stand out against the other colours and complement each other well.
Model:
The costume that Lily Allen is wearing is a casual outfit that someone would wear on a day to day basis, this could connote that we are seeing into Lily’s life as she is very casual about it. She is also looking straight into the camera which shows that she has contact with the audience. Also her clothing connotes the British indie music scene; however the focus here is more on what she has to say rather than the image of her.
Subtitle:
This is cleverly worded which draws the audience in as it is exclusive. Elaborate words such as “identikit” are used and therefore this is unusual and would interest the reader and so they would read onto the article.
Date:
The date is featured in the corners of both pages to show how dated the article is, this also continues the house style as it is black and red. Also in the corners is the page number this is so that you are able to locate it from the contents page.
Layout:
The fold of the double page could obstruct writing or the image, however on this page the fold is just obstructing some of the image and the title however does not obstruct any of the articles and this makes it readable and better for the audience. In my opinion I think the page is equally spaced that each the title, image and the article take up 1/3 of the page. However on my double page spread I would like my article to take up more of the page than the title and the image so this would be a little less uneven.

  1. Good range of info Alice - you should also read the actual article and include some information about the tone and direction in which the interview takes - then reflect on whether this is the type of dps you could recreate.
