Contents Analysis

Callout:
Clearly underneath the main image on the page there is an article explaining what is happening in the image. It is in bold and therefore when looking at the image you can clearly see that the text is relevant to the image, also the white background on the red and black text obstructs the image and therefore you will look straight at that after the image.
Centre of visual interest:
The centre of visual interest for this contents page is the masthead at the top of the page, which are the logo of the magazine and the title of the page “this week” which is bold and white on a black background so that it stands out and contrasts each other. Also I think after this it would be the image in the centre of the page because it is the largest thing on the page and the most colourful and therefore the audience will automatically be drawn to this as it stands out on the page.
Columns:
The layout of the contents page is set out into three prominent columns so that it is clear to see, but it also looks like a newspaper layout as all of this is in columns. Using columns makes it easier for the audience to understand and read the text as it is in three clear sections: band index, and article and then the contents on the far right side of the page, this is so that the contents are the last thing that the audience read and therefore are more likely to remember the numbers of the pages that they would like to view.
Sell:
On the bottom of the contents page there are shot sentences advertising the subscription to the magazine. This is also on a black background with yellow writing so that it is different to all of the other text on the screen and therefore the audience is drawn to the advertisement straight away and so that it looks attractive enough to sell the subscription and therefore earning the magazine more money and selling more copies.
Negative space:
There is only a small amount of negative page on the page on the far right hand side where the contents end. This is so that they can fit images of arrows in to point at the pages to show specials.
Colours:
There are four colours on the page which are: red, black, white and yellow. This is only one more than the front cover of the page, they have added the yellow into the contents page so that they could advertise a subscription to the magazine- they have done this in yellow as it is very different to the other colours used and therefore will draw the audiences eye to this. They have used the three colours the same as on the front page so that it is their house style and will run through the whole magazine.
Band index:
The band index on the far left hand side of the page is a nice addition to the page, this is so that the audience is able to look through this for bands that they would like to read about and then go to the page that they feature on, this is interesting and I would like to take this and use this in my magazine as it is a nice feature and I think my audience would use this.
Date:
The date in this magazine is not on the front cover of the magazine but is on the contents page on the banner which is the title. It is in a smaller font and is white to contrast the black background. This is important as it tells the audience how dated the magazine is and if the information in the magazine is actually true.
Arrows:
The arrows on the page point to the pages that were featured on the cover and are therefore specials. Also it shows a big feature in the magazine with the one red arrow which is: “GIG GUIDE” and so this will draw the audiences eye to this and so they will want to read it as it stands out and is advertised well.
Contents:
The sectioned titles of the contents sit on a black background and the text is white and therefore stands out from the black text on the white background on the rest of the page, so the audience can clearly see the sections of the magazine, they are also bigger and bolder. There is only one font used throughout the whole page which is a clear font so that all are able to read it, however these headings are in bold and therefore stand out from the rest.

  1. Decent information but for a high level this must be presented in a better format rather than just typed straight onto your blog - you will need to demonstrate better use of technologies to secure a level 4.
