Graphic designers

David Carson
after searching relevant photographers such as Matsumoto Gento, Harata Heiquito and Jop Van Bennekom, I thought that David Carson was the most relevant designer as his work has been described as "Grunge Typography"  and this is what I'm looking for for my magazine so I can look at his work and use some ideas.
Career:
from 1982-1987 he was a teacher and a professional surfer. In 1983 was when he started to look at graphic design and found himself immersed in the world. The same year he went to Switzerland for three weeks for a graphic design workshop as part of his degree, his teacher was a great influence.
In 1984 he became the art director of Transworld Skateboarding magazine and stayed for four years. After this he was known for the "dirty" type look, using non-mainstream techniques. He was then hired to design Ray Gun- an alternative music magazine with its debut in 1992.

His work:
I like his work because it is interesting and changed every time a new cover comes out and every season is different compared to what look he's going for. I like the fact that he uses rough fonts and an alternative style. However the magazine cover has no consistent plan for example the cover lines aren't in one consistent place and I do not like this and therefore I will not be taking this into my magazine. I like the last cover that I posted because of the colours, I think it truly reflects the style of the magazine, with the makeup etc. and I will be using this idea in my magazine.
